One-to-One Mindfulness Coaching

"Over the past two years that I’ve been seeing Louis for one to one mindfulness sessions; the impact of his teachings on my life have been nothing short of life changing. Taking on board the principles of mindfulness has totally reframed how I approach every aspect of my life, allowing me to live in the present moment, unburdened by anxiety which was previously a constant in my life.
This change would not have been possible if not for Louis’ understanding and engaging methods of teaching. He communicates these principles in a way which was so easy for me to grasp, instantly putting me at ease.

I could not recommend his services more, nor have I ever met someone with so much empathy and compassion - integral to enshrining the principles of mindfulness. Louis’ impact on my life has been profound.

An incredible teacher and an even better bloke, thank you so much Louis!"

I have seen first-hand the transformative power that mindfulness coaching can have on individuals. Mindfulness is a form of mental training that involves paying attention to the present moment with curiosity and non-judgment, and it has been shown to have numerous benefits for both mental and physical health.

One of the ways in which mindfulness coaching can be beneficial is in reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression. In a randomised controlled trial of adults with generalised anxiety disorder, those who received mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) had significantly greater reductions in anxiety symptoms compared to those who received cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) or no treatment (Hoge et al., 2013). In another study, participants with major depressive disorder who received mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) had a significantly lower risk of relapse compared to those who received usual care (Kuyken et al., 2016).

Mindfulness coaching can also be helpful for individuals who are experiencing stress and burnout, which is becoming increasingly prevalent in today's fast-paced society. In a meta-analysis of 29 studies, mindfulness-based interventions were found to significantly reduce symptoms of burnout and improve well-being in healthcare professionals (Garland et al., 2015). Similarly, in a randomised controlled trial of employees at a tech company, those who received a mindfulness intervention had significant reductions in perceived stress and improvements in overall well-being compared to those in a control group (Dane & Brummel, 2014).

In addition to mental health benefits, mindfulness coaching can also improve physical health outcomes. In a randomised controlled trial of patients with chronic low back pain, those who received mindfulness-based stress reduction had significant reductions in pain severity and functional limitations compared to those who received usual care (Cherkin et al., 2016). Similarly, in a study of patients with hypertension, those who received mindfulness-based stress reduction had significant reductions in systolic and diastolic blood pressure compared to those who received usual care (Hughes et al., 2013).

Furthermore, mindfulness coaching can also enhance cognitive functioning. In a randomised controlled trial of older adults, those who received mindfulness training had significant improvements in executive functioning compared to those in a control group (Lustig et al., 2009). Similarly, in a study of university students, those who received mindfulness training had significant improvements in attention and working memory compared to those in a control group (Chambers et al., 2008).

In conclusion, the benefits of mindfulness coaching are vast and well-supported by research. By developing greater self-awareness and learning to regulate their emotions, individuals can improve their mental and physical health, enhance cognitive functioning, and maintain their well-being over the long-term. As mindfulness continues to gain popularity, mindfulness coaching offers a valuable resource for those looking to improve their lives and thrive in today's challenging world.

about the teacher

Louis is a mindfulness practitioner, meditation teacher, psychology grad and founding Director of The Wellbeing Campus. With over ten years meditation experience and eight years of teaching mindfulness, Louis combines his passion for mental health with his love of mindfulness, positive psychology and neuroscience to help individuals and groups build healthy habits that have lasting changes.

Louis took on the biggest challenge of his life six years ago when he unexpectedly became a full time carer to his two nephews. His training in mindfulness and passion for holistic health is a testament to his ability to ‘hold it together’ while managing the daily challenges of caring for children with trauma-related issues alongside running a business and managing a long-term autoimmune condition.

Louis worked for several years in NHS and community sector mental health services, observing first-hand some of the limitations to an overly medicalised approach to mental health. Having worked alongside many psychologists and other skilled mental health practitioners, Louis considers mindfulness and compassion training to be fundamental in creating lasting changes in ones life.

As scientific evidence of the therapeutic benefits of meditation and yoga continues to grow, Louis seeks to further embed these ancient practices into his local community of Wirral and beyond.

His one-to-one work with clients is rooted in person-created, evidence-based practice, the type researchers have found can facilitate structural and functional changes the regions of the brain associated with stress management, emotional intelligence & resilience, compassion, learning & memory, and positive emotion.

Louis makes a consistent effort to keep up-to-date with current research and best practice guidelines, holding compassion and professionalism to high esteem. Each year he attends a 10-day silent meditation retreat, comprising over 100-hours of practice, and continues to build on his experiential understanding of mindfulness to help others embed this transformative practice into their daily lives.
